Performers.

August 13, Columbia.

Last round.

August 13, Columbia.

Dylan and Nicolas alternated working with their father last week. This is Nicolas’ last show.

No view, but sadness.

August 11, Columbia, Missouri (515 miles, home.)

We drove back today with no problems along the way. Lots of work upon arriving at the house made for a long day.
The kids are happy, here or there. I’m back in loneliness and deciding whether to stay.
Robin Williams ended his life yesterday and left me wondering in sadness.

Shooting star (Patrick Berta, 1964-1993)

August 11, Milan.

My brother Patrick died twenty-one years ago on the wings of a shooting star.
He was twenty-nine years young, and loved.
Not a day passes without his presence.

Cancelled.

August 11, Milan.

The Taylor date was cancelled at the last moment so we moved on to Milan and had the day off yesterday.
Mostly we slept. In the circus you grab all the sleep you can get.

The Fuscos left this morning to go back to Hugo, where Natalia should give birth to her third child soon.

No time to waste the beauty.

August 7, Point Place.

Researching the mayflies on the web I learned that they only live a day, for the sole purpose of mating and passing on their genes.
That makes their beauty even more poignant, if a little wasteful.

The day's magnificence.

August 7, Point Place.

We had breakfast at the Mongodal down the street this morning, as always on this lot, and Dylan and I became engrossed in mayflies, their ethereal, intricate structure, the breathtaking beauty of their perfectly adapted beings, hanging all over the store’s windows like tiny party balloons for evolution’s magnificent daily display.

Missed opportunity.

August 4, Kelleys Island.

Christian proposed to his girlfriend during his gag today.
Everybody knew but no told me, so there is no picture.

Kelleys Island crowds.

August 4, Kelleys Island.

The first show was sold out, as it always is on the first day of shows on Kelleys Island.

Kelleys Island crossing.

August 4, Kelleys Island.

We almost didn’t make it onto the island last night. The truck that has our house on top is on its death throes and Fridman had to use something short of magic to make it go on and arrive at the ferry landing in time for the last ferry crossing. We went out for a bite and the traditional first night out, even though the kids were tired (Nicolas fell asleep as we were waiting for Fridman and missed the crossing; he was cranky as ever upon waking up when we got onto the field.)
Today we went by the kids’ chosen schedule: they have been talking about the mini golf for days so that was the first stop, followed by some arcade games and ice cream before heading for the beach and meeting the Moss family there. During the first show Jeremiah made a giant BBQ and the kids played soccer by the tent next to the cookhouse.

Night move.

August 3, Norwalk.

We moved last night. I went to the McDonald’s with the kids to wait for Fridman, ever the last one on the lot, to arrive. We watched a TV series until late in the night.

July 31, Middlefield.

The circus got a new tent midway through the season this year and I only now got to see it.

Fiesta.

July 30, Middlefield.

There was a birthday party for Divad and Pepete under the cookhouse tonight.
